Apparently I have to make a blog too. So I'm adopting the wiki and I already have a few supporters. Feel free to comment on this thread for your additional support http://wayforward.wikia.com/wiki/Thread:8055 Also enjoy the new game :D
Hello fellow advanced monkeys,
As people may or may not be aware here, the current admin, Selachimorpha, has been absent or very rarely active in the last months, and the Shantae Wiki is on the verge of becoming unruly, with some trolls spamming the comments with useless or aggressive content toward other users, and, only occasionally so far but that may become more common in the future, adding useless contents in pages.
I believe a Wiki, no matter which, needs a more permanent monitoring. That's why I'll postulate to adopt the Shantae Wiki at Community Central tomorrow, as per the "being active for 7 days" rule. I don't quite expect any opposition at this point, but it's just to let you users know, as this is your Wiki as well.
I want to dev…
This popped up in my YouTube feed and I thought I'd share it. JelloApocalypse is a YouTube artist who regularly ridicules internet subcultures. Unfair, or sick burn?
Random filler text is random.
Dont be afraid to be yourself. True Friends will understand you. And if you have Friends that dont understand, there not true friends. Don't be afraid to show the world what you can do. Who knows, you may have a Great future. Don't be afraid to shiny ur brightest, and try ur best. Just follow ur heart.
I only signed in last week to support the Red Ash anime and game, but I did take the time to send some messages to developers to ask about stuff such as Half Hero Genie. WayForward just sent a reply about the current ETA of the game being the end of this year, and they're hoping a good enough success would give the time to make DLCs or sequels based on the goals they didn't reach. That gives some hope, right?
That's right. Thanks to the new Smash Fighters Ballot where you can vote for possible fighters Shantae has a chance to get into Super Smash Bros. 4 as DLC. Wayforward themselves are even okay with her getting in and is encouraging the fans to vote. https://twitter.com/WayForward/status/584099935072587776
If you want to vote just go here. https://cp.nintendo.co.jp/us/
WayForward posted a new Kickstarter update for Shantae: Half-Genie Hero, with some new details about the game and information for the design contributors! You can see it in full here:
The update also announces the opening of a vote for the design of the new crab transformation for Shantae! Four choices, including two hermit crabs... To vote for the best Pokém... ahem, transformation, go here (and don't forget to log in):
And here are the available choices (B rules the poll currently, but I'll be rooting for A):
Shantae and the Pirate's Curse might have been out for a while now, but it doesn't stop the Character spotlight video series from continuing! The new one is dedicated to a long white haired walrus lady, Bolo says. That's the last time I let him write my notes.
Now that's one Christmas gift: the Wii U version of Shantae and the Pirate's Curse will be released on December 25th, 2014! The launch price will be $19.99. Now you know how you will be spending this wonderful day! Official announcement here:
On more bitter news, the PayPal funding campaign for Shantae: Half-Genie Hero is now over. It concluded at $946.653, which is a pretty impressive sum, unfortunately not sufficient for another stretch goal. Well, we tried! Thanks for everyone who gave, I sure threw in a bunch of my own cash.
WayForward just announced that people who pledged for the "Your Art in Game" tier during the Half-Genie Hero Kickstarter campaign can now send theirs! Deadline will be March 2nd, 2015! Your art will be featured in one of the ten galleries of the Sequin Land Art Museum! Ten galleries with ten paintings each, which keys players will have to find in-game, with a special bonus when the ten of them are recovered.in a panic as usual.]]
Contributors will be contacted soon for information on how they will send their works. Guidelines for submission will be as follow:
- Resolution of 72 to 300 dpi, the higher the better.
- Aspect ratios from 1:1 to 1:2, either portrait or landscape.
- RBG color mode in PNG (without transparency) or TGA (24 …
The day we'll be able to whip it out with Shantae in HD is closing on us, as the trailer for Shantae and the Pirate's Curse on Wii U has been unveiled! Check it out below!
OK, we all knew it would come someday, and there it is: PayPal funding for Shantae: Half-Genie Hero is closing on December 16th, 2014. Here's the current state of funding:
It looks like the four remaining stretch goals would require some huge push to get funded. Someone wins at the lottery or at Euromillions, for instance. But, hey, never lose hope until it's closed.
On the positive side of things, WayForward announced that contributors who financed some artist tiers (Your Face in Game, Enemy Designers, Your Art in Game) would soon be called to submit their work. The "Your Art in Game" will be first. Besides, some more voting will start and updates on the game's development will come more often.
New character spotlight video today, with the Squid Baron. Find the video below, you know the thing now.
The next character to earn the vid Spotlight treatment is none other than Risky Boots! Find it below!
The character spotlight series continues for Shantae and the Pirate's Curse, the new one dedicated to our favourite airhead, Bolo!
Shantae and the Pirate's Curse might be out already, but that doesn't stop WayForward from offering us more character spotlights! The new one is dedicated to Shantae's long time pal, Sky! Get it below!
On this day, October 23, 2014, Shantae and the Pirate's Curse is now within grasp on the Nintendo 3DS! You've waited long enough so now go and grab your booty!
Hey guys and gals!
Three days away from the release of Shantae and the Pirate's Curse and the hype train doesn't seem to slow down! Have one more "launch trailer" courtesy of WayForward, featuring some more voice samples from Cristina Vee as Shantae!
Edit: actually I'm playing faster than the music. Want a real treat? Here's an exclusive (and WF-endorsed) spoiler of the first 12 minutes of the game! So what's new? Well, Mayor Scuttlebutt is chocoholic, skyscrapers have come to Scuttle Town, and Shantae doesn't own a bathtub! And if you want more, just hit the video below!
Spoilers seem to be piling up for Shantae and the Pirate's Curse and promotion is stepping up! Enjoy a new trailer, this time centered around the infamous Ammo Baron!
The guys at Nintendo Everything have had the good idea of spoiling stuff from the recent Nintendo Force issue featuring Shantae and the Pirate's Curse! Some we already knew from that recent Matt Bozon interview, but also new details, listed below:
- Risky Boots appears at the beginning of the game seeking an alliance, and eventually reaches a truce with Shantae
- Each of the six new islands have their own labyrinth and boss
- The Fighter's Gear from the first game is back, alongside the Pirate Gear
- The Pirate hat will be used to glide over gaps or ride currents
- The Cannon will be used to propel Shantae skyward
- The Flintlock pistol will be a weapon to kill foe from a distance (although the usual hair whip is still here)
- A pair o…
Hello Shantaerians and Tinkerbackers!
At long last, the release date for Shantae and the Pirate's Curse is finally here. On 3DS only for the moment, but that's a start! The game will be released in two weeks from here, October 23, 2014, and will cost you $19,99!
WayForward brings us the news with an added bonus: a presentation trailer of Rottytops which includes some new scenes with Shantae and Abner Cadaver, as well as a strange new human character who looks... Well, watch the trailer and you'll see ;)
Edit: and I just saw that the voice in the video is none other than Cristina Vee as Shantae! You now have an idea of how our half-genie's voice will sound from now on!
Twitter info here:
Hello Shantaerians and Tinkerbackers!
Matt Bozon, Shantae's daddy here in the real world, just published an interview for Siliconera. Any great reveal? A release date for Shantae and the Pirate's Curse maybe? Sadly, no. But he does mention new details about the upcoming episode. A quick summary here:
- As expected, Shantae will acquire new abilities, which sometimes will have to be combined in order to make progress.
- The graphic motor will feature stereoscopic 3D for the first time in a Shantae game. It was conceived with the idea that 3D backgrounds will look better than if you keep the Nintendo 3DS in 2D.
- The game will feature Metroid-style maps.
- The game's world will be divided into different islands. Shantae travels to the different islands…
Hello Shantaerians and Tinkerbackers!
Good news today: WayForward just announced that Shantae and the Pirate's Curse passed the Nintendo pre-check! For those who don't know what it is, it just means the Big N reviewed the game one last time to make sure it could be released! Expect the release date for the game, at long last, very soon!!!
Twitter announcement here:
Hello Shantaerians and Tinkerbackers!
Today, WayForward just posted the update on the Kickstarter page for Shantae: Half-Genie Hero to confirm our success in reaching the $900K stretch goal! It comes with bits of artworks for Sky, Bolo and Rottytops' gameplays, although it looks like they are still in their preliminary stages.
The update also teases the next stretch goal, A Dish Served Cold, featuring Risky's Revenge's boss Nega-Shantae as the returning main villain. They also mention in passing the voice acting stretch goal that lies beyond it, and it sounds like they already have a precise idea of how it would sound... However, that's a mountain of cash away, but how about making another miracle happen, guys and gals? Just keep up with your ef…
Still expecting a confirmation message from WayForward, but it looks like there was a big boost of the PayPal tonight, and we've reached the $900.000 goal! Hero Modes for Half-Genie Hero ARE a thing!!! If you don't believe me, just glance at the PayPal counter just below!
Thank you everybody for all the efforts you put in this campaign, you're awesome! Now... How about reaching the $1M mark, guys? It looks unlikely we'll make it given the mountain in front of us, but some didn't believe 10 months ago that we would make it to the next stretch goal! So let's not give up!
Edit: and WayForward just confirmed the increase was legit! Expect a bigger update Monday!
WayForward's first poll is over, and out of the four, the late-comer design D of the archer had a landslide victory! I still liked C more, but that's life... I'll pay someone to hack my copy of Half-Genie Hero, no big deal. Anyway, have one more look at your favourite below!
Looks like, as usual with the Internet, poll-rigging plagued the last vote for the design of the Archer for Shantae: Half-Genie Hero! WayForward has thus relaunched the vote, with a bonus fourth design which combines elements from the three others! I still believe that the C kicks ass, but that new D design is sweeping the votes currently...
Well, as like last time, you must log in on WayForward's website, visit the following thread of the WayForums:
Choose your favourite design (I remember saying something about which one was the best, but I'm not sure :P ) and then click on Vote, and you're done! Poll will be opened until 08/22/14 17:06 PD…
Well, WayForward is not making our lives any easier, first they leave us away for weeks without news and we have to find filler news to keep the crowd satiated, and then they shower us under a bunch of stuff at once!
Well, ahem, anyway. The Kickstarter has been updated with heavy news, all good except one. First, we have a vid of gameplay from Shantae: Half-Genie Hero! Our contributor Entity1037 posted it already on the HGH page (thanks, man!) and here it is:
Next. WayForward just acknowledged our progress with the PayPal campaign, as they said Hero Modes WILL happen! Of course, we still have a little less than $7K to fill before that, but they are just as confident as we are that we'll make it! With it, WayForward declares th…
Still not much going on around here, heh? Still no release date for Shantae and the Pirate's Curse...
So why the piece of news? Well, I've noticed several times people mentioning that Half-Genie Hero might be too far into development to allow for the inclusion of new stretch goals, even if the PayPal campaign reached them. WayForward just discarded this concern: in a Tweet yesterday, they confirmed they have taken into account the progress toward the next stretch goal (which is, as of now, less than $8,500 away)! The exact wording of the Tweet can be found here:
So guys, no excuse! We HAVE to make Hero Modes happen! :)
Not much going on around our beloved half-genie lately, heh? Well, we shall have to fill the waiting with a little piece of news: WayForward just updated the PayPal counter for Half-Genie Hero so it displays the BackerKit sum and adds it to the total! You can see the brand new counter on the official website page for Half-Genie Hero, just below:
As you can see, we're now exactly $11K away from the Hero Modes stretch goal. Do not hesitate to help fill the gap by giving via PayPal or your BackerKit account if you have one! Let's make Hero Modes happen!
Here's a more unusual piece of news for a change: Stephane Hockenhull, the guy who devised the Paragon 5 Game Boy Tracker (or Beyond Tracker), which is the program that was used by Jake Kaufman to create the music to the first Shantae game, has just made the complete program and its replay routines available to the public.
The announcement here:
And the page to download all the stuff:
Stephane Hockenhull is also asking for donations. The music to Shantae has been noted as one of the strongest aspects of the game, so if you feel like thanking him for it, you know what to do.
The first big Shantae release of the year is here, with Shantae: Risky's Revenge's Director's Cut edition now going live on Steam for Windows!
Go here to grab your own copy:
Or simply go to the store through your own Steam program. Let's hope Shantae and the Pirate's Curse will enjoy a similar release as well! Why not?
And if you think that Shantae is awesome and want to thank WayForward even more than you already did by buying the game, remember that Half-Genie Hero is still open for donations! We're so close to Hero Modes and making the future sequel even greater than it already looks!
WayForward keeps its pace and now reveals the trailer for the Director's Cut edition of Shantae: Risky's Revenge! Not revealing anything new if you've been following their Twitter and Facebook but it's still cool to watch. Check it out below:
On an unrelated note, I would like to take the opportunity to inform you that the PayPal for Half-Genie Hero just crossed the $100.000 threshold! That's not unlocking a stretch goal yet, but with the Backerkit at $4600+, we're at less than $20.000 of Hero Modes!
That's still a sum, but we can really do it!
WayForward are again revealing new features for the upcoming Director's Cut edition of Shantae: Risky's Revenge! First, the in-game stuff, with the announcement that as of now, all the Warp Squid pillars in the game will be interconnected, which means you can now warp from one pillar to any of the other ones in the game! Info coming from here:
Second point, the Steam-exclusive bonuses, such as cards, emoticons, badges, achievements and such are now confirmed! Source:
The first revelation about the Steam Director's Cut of Shantae: Risky's Revenge has been revealed: the Dancer costume available in the iOS version has been turned into its own unlockable standalone mode, the "Magic Mode"! Not much of an innovation so far, but it will still show its own dialogue portraits, something that was missing from the previous version. Also the Dancer costume got a little redesign.
The info about it here:
We can only wonder what purpose the Import Room will serve then. Perhaps bonus features connected to DuckTales: Remastered or Adventure Time?
Another piece of news many of you were craving for: the release date for Risky's Revenge on Steam! WayForward just announced that the game would be released next week on July 15! Full announcement here:
The game will come in a Director's Cut edition, which content is still unclear at the moment, but expect more info very soon!
Now, that's a piece of news some of you have been eagerly waiting for: Cristina Vee is going to succeed to Meagan Glaser as Shantae's voice actor for The Pirate's Curse and Half-Genie Hero! Of course, so far, that consists basically in rerecording all those moans, grunts, cries and such that Meagan provided for Risky's Revenge.
But honestly, I don't see what would stop her from doing all the voice-over if we were to ever reach the $1.1M stretch goal for voice acting in HGH! She already did voice acting in the past, so why not? It looks like a mountain to climb, but hey, we have to believe and keep on fighting to make this happen!
The Twitter posts announcing Cristina's role:
Well, I must say I'm impressed, with such a late announcement, the PayPal Pledge Day did bring in around $600, which is a pretty good result! It's great to see you guys so mobilized. And to pump up the moral of the troops, do know that the amount you see in the PayPal table is not even complete, because the amount of cash you add through the BackerKit is not factorized in it! According to WayForward, they made around $4,000 through the BackerKit, so we are actually at more or less $873,000 at the moment! Of course, I remind you that you can still increase your pledge whenever you want, just follow the link here, or go to your BackerKit account if you have one.
A quick note to inform you that those guys organizing PayPal Pledge Days are doing it again, June 25... That's it, tomorrow as of this moment. A bit late to mobilize in my opinion, but just in case, I'm relaying it here. As a reminder (do you really need it?), to increase your pledge, go there:
And current amount below:
According to a Go Nintendo interview with Matt Bozon, is set to be even larger than the original Shantae.
The whole interview is interesting and worth a read, but for me this was the big takeaway point. My favorite thing about the first game is how large it feels, close to RPG in the sense of epicness (epicality? epicity? spellcheck says there is no real word for this) it conveys. I'm pretty jazzed to play this game.
You should check out the whole interview.
OK, now that's indeed some big news about ! The new tale about our dear half-genie is no longer a 3DS-exclusive as it's also coming to Wii U! Who said there were not enough great games on this console to buy it?
Also, on a more bittersweet note, the game is now settled for a late summer release. I guess the whole conversion process is taking its toll on the development. Learn everything about the news following this link:
Edit: even more news with a new TPC trailer!
A quick piece of news to inform you that the new WayForward website has now gone live! To visit the website, you have to follow this link (this one thing didn't change):
The biggest addition to the website are the long-promised WayForums. To those who have been wondering for a while how they would vote for stuff and such, it will be the place to be. Follow the link to visit the (pretty empty as of now) forum:
It looks like the upper tiers of PayPal contributions for Half-Genie Hero, which WayForward promised would be coming back, are not live yet. You can still contribute, but you might end up willing to wait a bit before pledging to benefit from these upper tiers. Edit:…
We've got a piece of news from WayForward regarding Shantae and the Pirate's Curse. It looks like some big announcement regarding the game is to be expected during the E3! Yes, that's not much so far, but it's still good to hear a little from the game. As a reminder, the E3 will take place from June 10 to June 12 at the Los Angeles Convention Center.
Here's the announcement on Facebook, with what looks like a Rottytops in dire straits:
and the same on Twitter:
And, of course, there's also that other Shantae game, asking for your donations:
WayForward just posted the May update on the Shantae: Half-Genie Hero Kickstarter page! Expect some more concept arts of the flying carpet zone, with more Ammo Baron coming as well! Looks like this guy will not be done being a pain after Shantae and the Pirate's Curse. Regarding the latter game, sadly no news still. Follow the link to the update:
Usual reminder, help Half-Genie Hero achieve more stretch goals, bla bla bla:
Oh, and if you still have some money to spend after giving all you could to HGH, the guys from Tic Toc Games are also asking for your help. Who are they? Well, Shereef Morse who produced Shantae, an…
PayPal pledge day 3 (april 30) was a success! We really can make hero modes happen! The next pledge day is scheduled to may 28. : )
(Paypal table added by Selachimorpha (talk) 20:31, May 7, 2014 (UTC))
Some of you who gave money just like me on the last PayPal pledge day (see here if you have no idea what I'm talking about) or in the days before that may have noticed that the PayPal counter doesn't seem to move much. Don't worry, the donations are still open, it's just that this counter is sometimes busted. It happened already in February, and WayForward had to work on it several times to make it function normally again. It appears that the counter is jammed once again: I have mailed them once already and it was unlocked, but the law of the series seems to once again prevail. If you notice the counter doesn't budge when you give, then just shoot WayForward a mail or inform them via Twitter, and they should normally fix…
A quick note to inform you that the guys who are organizing PayPal Pledge days (more info here: User_blog:Pierre_Leneveu/PayPal_Pledge_Day and here: User_blog:Pierre_Leneveu/PayPal_Pledge_Day_2) have chosen April 30 as the next date. As a reminder, you are able to increase your donation here:
Please remember that doing it on PayPal Pledge Day is entirely optional, you're welcome to increase (or do, if you have not given yet) your pledge anytime you want. We are extremely close to $860.000, and reaching the $900.000 stretch goal is really possible.
(Paypal table added by Selachimorpha (talk) 20:33, May 7, 2014 (UTC))
Hey guys, Pileofdoodoo here, if you're wondering why a Shantae crossover should be made becuase 4 days ago this month, a user who suggested a crossover for this is amazing and got me to my hyperness. I suggest that Jet Set Radio is a very interesting idea because seeing Shantae on rollerskates and doing grafitti should be sexy. Leave you thoughts in the comments below. P.S. I just commented on him about this game
Update #1: Maybe adding her as a secret charachter in Street fighter 2 would be a good idea. Words?
