Mermaids are enemies that appear in Risky's Revenge, Pirate's Curse, Half-Genie Hero, and Shantae and the Seven Sirens. Oddly enough, they aren't encountered underwater at all throughout the series. They wield tridents that shoot large water bubbles at Shantae, and sometimes they just blow kisses. Mermaids are also quite durable and take quite a few hits before they go down.

. Mer-people were hinted to be the original inhabitants of Water Town in Shantae, but Mermaids do not appear until Risky's Revenge. They wield tridents, fire bubbles, and can vanish into puddles they apparently create magically. Shantae's Mermaid form can only fire a bubble underwater, however. Somewhat ironically, enemy Mermaids only ever appear on land. Mermaids appear in the folklore of many cultures worldwide, including the Near East, Europe, Asia, and Africa. According to the myths of these cultures there is also the male counterpart of the mermaids, the mermen, that not appeared yet in the Shantae series. In Half-Genie Hero, Bolo mentions the "Fish-folk". In that same game, the mermaids stop attacking Shantae when their queen, the Giga Mermaid, is freed, but quickly regain their role as enemies in Seven Sirens.

In the original game, a bipedal mer-woman type creature called a Bog sahagin[1] can appear as an opponent in the Gecko Match. The mermaids have 16 HP in The Pirate's Curse.

Half-Genie Hero

They become tougher by shooting five water bubbles at once in all directions, making it much harder to avoid up close. The mermaids also have a queen. They stop attacking when Shantae frees their queen, and are replaced with Nagas.

Shantae and the Seven Sirens

For whatever reason, the Mermaids are attacking Shantae again. They can be found all over the island, with the same attacks as in Half-Genie Hero.

Their Monster Card doubles Shantae's swim speed in human form when equipped.
